Karumba has fully sealed road access via the Savannah Way from the East Coast or the Matilda Way from Mount Isa/Cloncurry/Julia Creek - so getting to the coastline in the bottom of the Gulf of Carpentaria very accessible. For the more adventurous you can come across from the Cape York connecting roads or try the Savannah Way via Borrooloola and Burketown -always check road conditions.

The Cairns to Karumba – Trans North Bus service operates 3 times weekly – coming out to Karumba on Monday – Wednesday and Friday – and returning the following day. Ash’s is the local booking agent for this service.

However you travel – cycling, motorbike, car, 4WD, caravan or other – take care on the roads – give up the road to trucks when safe to do so–and keep a keen eye out for wildlife – for instance around Karumba there are literally hundreds of small wallabies who line the roads around sunrise and sunset and through the evenings and arrive safe to enjoy all Karumba and the Gulf has to offer.
