What's Happenning in Karumba
Variety Bash

Cairns to Karumba — Coast to Coast Bike Ride 2008
Join Ash’s (major sponsor) in supporting the 11th Coast to Coast Bike Ride — this is a 7 day journey on two wheels following the Savannah Way from Cairns to Karumba — running from June 29th to July 5th, 2008. Winding up the Kuranda Range towards the Cairns Hinterland and through rainforest, volcanic landscapes and the savannah outback this event has raised over $500,000 in past years which has been donated back to support and assist children in the outback and rural/remote areas of Far North Queensland. It is unique in the event is 100% voluntarily run and 95% of the funds raised are given away to nominated beneficiaries across the region. There is a lot of fun and social activities surrounding the event in each town along the way — a bit like a car bash except on two wheels! Hit on the link below to learn more!

Karumba Community Anglers Classic
This is a fun, family orientated community event with lots of activities across the weekend — held on the first weekend in the March/April school holidays each year. The funds raised on the weekend go to support the Barra Farm/Hatchery and community projects. Ash’s is a pleased to be a sponsor.
Karumba Progress Association - plans for the future
The Progress Association is a voluntary organization established to support both community and business in the area. Essentially any rate payer is an automatic member of the Association. Over the years the Association has been involved with building the local Civic Centre, establishing and managing various events and fund raising activities, supporting development and distribution of the ‘Karumba’ brochure, signage, liaison with the Carpentaria Shire Council and other organizations to enhance and improve amenities and facilities and generally providing an entity to address community needs and issues as they arise.
In very recent times the Association has established the Karumba Community Anglers Classic, provided an entity under which to run the annual Karumba Christmas Tree event, successfully funded a recreational fishing education/promotion trailer, provided funding to the local swimming pool for equipment, re-vamped visitor information signage and initiated a study into the impacts of recreational fishing with a view to forming worthwhile strategies to address such impacts positively and continue to support the main local industries of fishing, tourism, mining and the pastoral industry.
Karumba Progress Association is launching their new website early in 2008 — www.amazingkarumba.com.au which will provide information on the town, history, environment, economic base, community services and events and more. There are also plans to work on a town entrance and beautification project and continuing efforts to have a major boardwalk project approved and funded — linking Karumba Point and the Karumba town area.
Meetings are notified in the Gulf Chronicle and the town community noticeboard and all are welcome.
